LONDON: Cricket West Indies (CWI) is set to lose out from their television rights deal with British broadcaster Sky Sports as it isn’t willing to pay an estimated $2 million to the board for the ongoing T20 series between West Indies and England, ESPNcricinfo reports.
Sky’s argument is centred around the fact that as part of its original agreement with CWI for the tour, covering two T20 internationals wasn’t a part of the package. The broadcaster is said to have already coughed up a heavy amount for three Tests, five ODIs and a solitary T20I.
As a result, it is likely that Sky could still broadcast the match free-of-cost in the United Kingdom. On the other hand, the CWI has the right to deny Sky any access to its pictures and could utilise its own personnel, cameras and feed. The board is reportedly contemplating broadcasting the final T20I on its official Twitter and YouTube handles besides its own website.
