MUMBAI: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is at the risk of going bankrupt within the next nine months, Cricket Age reports.
The article published by the Indian cricket news website argues that the insensible decisions of two top-level officials at SLC has pushed the Sri Lankan cricket board into a financial crisis.
It further states that the issue has escalated as an outcome of the poor administration by both past and current officials.
Among several key reasons that have led led to the present crisis are the 30% salary increments given to officials and distribution of ex-gratia payments to several sports clubs.
The report also mentions a sum of approximately $187,000 for broadcasting rights, which SLC is still to receive.
The financial crisis has in no way crimped the enthusiasm of influential officials dipping into board funds for all expenses paid trips the ongoing World Cup 2019 in the UK.
Reports have also emerged that SLC has allowed its executive committee members to travel to the UK for a vacation of one week to witness World Cup matches. Accommodation is also being paid for by the board.
