The World Padel League on Monday announced Bollywood actor-producer Sohail Khan as the owner of Khan Tigers, a team in the upcoming season 3 of WPL.
The WPL, co-founded by tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi, will take place from August 12–16 at the NESCO Center in Goregaon, Mumbai. This season, the league expands to six franchises and will feature 36 top international players, “promising even more action, glamour, and high-octane sport”, an official release asserts.
“Playing any sport is a great way to channel one’s energy positively. It helps you build discipline, maintain a healthy body, and stay away from vices and distractions — that’s been true in my life too,” said Sohail Khan. “Growing up, squash was my go-to sport. It kept me focused. Now, my kids have inherited that same mindset. They were the ones who introduced me to padel — and they’re completely hooked.” Khan says padel now plays a central role in his daily routine. “We play together, and it’s become a fun, competitive, and really addictive experience. Padel is fast, social, and surprisingly easy to pick up — it’s totally up my alley, and anyone’s.”
With the sport catching on quickly in India, Khan felt the time was right to turn his enthusiasm into commitment. “Associating with the World Padel League felt natural. I’ve always loved how sport and entertainment come together — whether it was with the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) or now the WPL. This league is a fantastic blend of energy, athleticism, and showbiz. The Khan Tigers are ready to roar. It’s going to be an action-packed season!”
What is Padel?
A fast-paced racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, padel is played in doubles on an enclosed court with glass walls. The game is known for its speed, strategy, and social nature, making it a global favourite and now a rising force in India’s sporting landscape.
