NEW DELHI: Badminton superstar Kidambi Srikanth won top honours at the annual Sports Illustrated (SI) India’s Sportsperson of The Year Awards in the city on Wednesday.
In its eighth year, the awards celebrate the achievements and performances of the best athletes, teams and coaches in the country. SI organized the event this year in association with Herbalife, the nutrition products company which is known to have football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo as one of its brand ambassadors.
SI recognized Srikanth’s rise to the World No.1 ranking in April this year courtesy 4 Superseries titles in 2017. He succeeded the likes of female compatriots Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu, who won the award in 2013 and 2017 respectively.

Comeback of the Year: Sushil Kumar
Gamechanger of the Year: Shubhankar Sharma
Outstanding contribution to Sport: Leander Paes
Lifetime Achievement Award: Dhanraj Pillay
Special Award Living Legend: Balbir Singh Sr.
Sportsperson of the Year Award: Kidambi Srikanth
