MUMBAI: As marketing exercises go, this one is certainly up there. ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 host broadcaster Star Sports took to Twitter to share a video featuring Dwayne ‘the Great One’ Johnson in which he can be seen expressing his excitement for THE group stage clash of the tournament – Sunday’s India vs Pakistan face-off.
What’s in it for the former WWE superstar long turned international Hollywood action star? His latest film Black Adam releases in India this Friday, two days prior to the highly anticipated clash of the arch rivals.
Speaking of Black Adam, for a second there we were almost convinced that this was all “in-house”, in that this was another film from the Walt Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe that was releasing. Nothing of the sort. Black Adam is from the house of Marvel rival DC Entertainment; owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Coming back on topic, ahead of the ‘Greatest Rivalry’ between India and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup on October 23rd, the Hollywood superstar will be seen in a special virtual interaction on the Star Sports show ‘Cricket Live’.
The Rock (his WWE avatar) says, “When the greatest rivals collide, the world will stand still. This is more than a just a cricket match. It is time for India vs Pakistan.”
India is taking on Pakistan in its opening game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in what promises to be a high-intensity clash. The all-important opening fixture, for both teams, will be the highlight encounter in Group 2 of the Super 12. The other teams in Group 2 include Bangladesh, South Africa, and two teams that are yet to qualify as of today.
