Tarlochan Singh’s son secures 2nd term as IOA medical panel chief

NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Friday appointed Pawandeep Singh Kohli, son of veteran sports administrator Tarlochan Singh, to a second successive term as chairman of its medical commission.

Kohli’s role as the chief medical officer of the Indian contingent at the Rio Olympics had come under scanner after reports emerged that he was a radiologist by profession and proved to be of little help to the Indian athletes during the Games when they suffered injuries, Times of India reports.

Kohli’s role (more the lack of it) came into the spotlight after woman wrestler Vinesh Phogat suffered a serious knee injury during her bout at the Games, TOI reports.

Kohli begins his second term with the IOA now being helmed by International Hockey Federation (FIH) president Narinder Batra. He was also chairman of the medical commission under the regime of N Ramachandran.

Meanwhile, the daily further reports that long serving Indian tennis administrator Anil Khanna is chairman of the finance commission, while the advisory committee comprises of Tarlochan, GS Mander, S Regunathan and BS Landge.
