TMM 2019 to improve running experience with altered route map

MUMBAI: Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) race director Hugh Jones has revealed that the 2019 edition of the IAAF Gold Label event has slightly changed its running route for the participants to ensure that hurdles such as traffic and metro construction work don’t dampen runners’ experience.

“There is a slight change this year along the route around the finish lines. We have various finish points for an improved experience. Marathon Amateurs, Half Marathoners, and participants in the Timed 10km Run will be finishing at Hazarimal Somani Marg. We are also going to start early so that the marathoners have covered a good amount of length before the sun hits them. We will have less conflict with moving traffic, and also have taken into consideration the ongoing metro construction work. We have managed to have a straight run for the elite runners. This year we have less turns and kept only one u-turn, which is at Nariman Point. All these changes will ensure that both runners and spectators enjoy a smooth race during Tata Mumbai Marathon 2019.” Jones said.

The 16th edition of the event, which will take place on Sunday, will observe slight changes in the route in timing, start and finish lines across categories.

Procam International Joint MD Vivek Singh added: “We are thankful to the government and Bombay Gymkhana for their support. This year we have made slight changes across the course and created a challenging environment. We have ensured that there is no stoppage in any metro construction work. This year we have kept a finish at Hazarimal Somani Marg for certain categories of runners. We would like to thank all the authorities in the city as they have provided us excellent support to ensure that we have a successful edition once again.“

The organizers have ensured that participants have the option to avail any of the free 55 shuttle services outside Mahalaxmi and Parel railway stations between 3.30 am and 4.45 am. There are special early morning trains been arranged for people staying outside South Mumbai.

With 1400 volunteers, 1600 security guards and 9000 policemen on duty, the Mumbai Marathon is set to take place smoother than ever.
