Tokyo 2020 adds Tobu Tower Skytree to sponsor roster

TOKYO: The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) Wednesday welcomed Tobu Tower Skytree Co., Ltd as a Tokyo 2020 Official Supporter, the third domestic tier of the Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme.

The company will be a Partner in the category “Management and operation of Transmission Tower and/or Observation Deck of Tower Skytree”. Its addition brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 domestic partners to 68*, including 15 Gold Partners, 32 Official Partners and 21 Official Supporters (including one Official Supporter which sponsors only the Paralympic Games), all of whom will play vital roles in the successful delivery of the Games.

Mori Yoshiro, president of Tokyo 2020, welcomed the announcement, commenting, “We are pleased to welcome Tobu Tower Skytree  Co., Ltd, who operate and manage the transmission tower and observation deck of Tokyo Skytree , as a Tokyo 2020 partner. The Tokyo Skytree has become a symbol of the city of Tokyo over the years, since submitting our original candidature to host the Games in 2013. More recently it has come to symbolise the nation’s sense of unity and comradeship as we seek to overcome the social and economic challenges of COVID-19, although this will undoubtedly take time. With the support of Tobu Tower Skytree Co., Ltd., Tokyo 2020 will aim to achieve new goals as we face the future with a fresh sense of determination.”

Tobu Tower Skytree president Iwase Yutaka commented, “We are truly honoured to participate in the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 as an Official Supporter. As the world seeks to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, people have high hopes for the Tokyo 2020 Games. At a height of 634m, Tokyo Skytree is the world’s tallest freestanding transmission tower and a key component of Japan’s infrastructure. Its broadcasts will showcase new aspects of Japanese culture that will symbolise the country’s recovery, thereby contributing to the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games.”

Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme: The Olympic sponsorship programme is divided into four separate categories, with the IOC’s The Olympic Partner (TOP) programme constituting the very highest level of Olympic sponsorship. The Worldwide TOP Partners who support the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 are Coca-Cola, Airbnb, Alibaba, Atos, Bridgestone, Dow, GE, Intel, Omega, Panasonic, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, Toyota and Visa.

The three remaining categories are designated for domestic sponsors. The highest domestic tier comprises Gold Partners, the second tier consists of Official Partners and the third tier is made up of Official Supporters. Domestic sponsors will also be core components of Tokyo 2020’s Marketing Programme, and until 2020 they will be indispensable partners both for the successful delivery of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and as partners of Japan’s Olympic and Paralympic teams. Accordingly, they will be accorded the rights to use Tokyo 2020’s Olympic and Paralympic designations and imagery, including emblems, mascots and slogans. In collaboration with all sponsors who take part in the Marketing Programme, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee will work to contribute to a brighter tomorrow for both Japan and the world.

* In addition to these 68 Tokyo 2020 domestic partners, the Tokyo 2020 sponsorship programme also includes eleven Worldwide Olympic Partners – Alibaba, Atos, Bridgestone, Coca-Cola, Omega, Panasonic, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, Toyota and Visa – as Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gold Partners, and Airbnb as Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Official Partner.
