MUMBAI: UEFA, the governing body for football in Europe, has invited tenders for broadcasting rights in the Indian sub-continent to UEFA’s club competitions for the 2021-24 cycle.
The tender process, led by TEAM Marketing AG, UEFA’s official marketing agency, has set a first-round bid deadline of March 16 (10 AM CET).
The rights package includes the top-tier UEFA Champions League (and UEFA Super Cup), the Europa League and Europa Conference League, with rights to the second-tier and new third-tier competition packaged together.
Sony Pictures Networks India is the incumbent rights holder for UEFA’s club competitions, renewal negotiations for which have remained inconclusive. It is pertinent to note here that as per SportzPower‘s understanding, in the last rights cycle (2018/19 – 2021-22), SPN had negotiated a downward revision in price from the earlier one.
This website has no confirmation that SPN has been seeking a further downward revision in rights value, but it would be reasonable to assume so.
