ULTIMATE TABLE TENNIS (UTT) has announced the addition of a new franchise, UP Prometheans, to its roster for Season 7, marking a strategic expansion of the league into Uttar Pradesh and strengthening its national footprint.
The inclusion of the new team takes the league to seven franchises, reflecting UTT’s continued efforts to broaden regional representation and deepen engagement across India’s largest states.
The team is owned by Mukesh Sharma, founder-chairperson of Prometheus School in Noida and a first-generation entrepreneur. Sharma’s Prometheus Sports Academy has been involved in developing high-performance infrastructure across multiple sports, including table tennis, badminton and shooting. The ecosystem has supported elite athletes, including Olympian Archana Kamath, highlighting a strong grassroots-to-elite development pathway.
UP Prometheans will replace the Chennai-based franchise in the upcoming season, signalling a shift in the league’s geographic strategy toward northern India. The move is expected to unlock a large fan base in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, which has been relatively underrepresented in franchise-based sports leagues.
UP Prometheans are also set to participate in Dream UTT Juniors, a youth development initiative, reinforcing the league’s focus on nurturing future talent.
Season 7 of Ultimate Table Tennis is scheduled to be held in Goa in July 2026, with matches taking place at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium.
The competition will feature seven teams in a single round-robin format, where each team plays every other once. This season has an expanded schedule with 24 ties, up from 23 in previous editions. Matches will be broadcast on Star Sports and streamed digitally on JioHotstar, ensuring wide reach across audiences.
Launched in 2017 under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India, UTT has grown into one of India’s leading franchise-based leagues, featuring top Indian paddlers such as Achanta Sharath Kamal alongside international stars.
