NEW DELHI: The Women’s Challenger series will be held in the United Arab Emirates from November 4 to 9, a senior IPL official confirmed to PTI on Wednesday.
“Yes, the dates of the tournament have been finalised. It will be held from November 4 to 9. There will be a single round robin league between the three teams Trailblazers, Velocity and Supernovas along with the final. In all four matches will be held,” the senior IPL official said.
Last week, the BCCI announced the new women’s selection panel headed by Neetu David. This panel is now required to select the three squads for the tournament.
The teams are set to fly to the UAE around the second week of October following which they will undergo a mandatory six-day quarantine unless the health codes are relaxed. Considering that Abu Dhabi has stricter quarantine rules, the matches are expected to be held in Dubai and Sharjah stadiums.
Top players from Australia and England will not be available due to their existing contracts with the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), since the dates of WBBL clash with the Women’s Challengers.
Three Indian players Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur are to feature in WBBL and thus are not expected to be a part of the cash rich women’s franchise league.
