WPL player auction likely to be held on Feb 11 or 13: Reports

MUMBAI: The player auction for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will likely take place either in New Delhi on February 11 or in Mumbai on February 13.

This will leave the five newly-minted franchises with barely three weeks to prepare for league’s debut season, which, as per ESPNcricinfo, is expected to take place between March 4 and 24.

“The BCCI is discussing the dates but February 11 (Saturday) and 13 (Monday) have been shortlisted. February 13 will be a convenient date for most franchises,” a WPL team representative told Cricbuzz.

With four of the five WPL teams – Reliance’s MI Emirates, Capri Global’s Sharjah Warriors, Adani Group’s Gulf Giants and Delhi Capitals’ Dubai Capitals – having a presence in the ILT20 and two – MI and DC – operating teams in the SA20 as well, February 13 looks the safest bet to hold the player auction.

WPL first season in Mumbai
ESPNcricinfo reports that the BCCI has earmarked two venues in Mumbai – Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Cricket Academy in Navi Mumbai – to host the 22 matches that will comprise the inaugural WPL season.
