CHENNAI: Ahead of the third edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League, which will kick off in the first half of July, two franchise owners have exited the TNPL, selling the stakeholding in their respective teams to new management.
Tuti Patriots, winner of the inaugural edition of the competition and runners-up in 2017, and underperformers Madurai Super Giants (MSG) will both have new owners, Times of India reports.
“Albert Muralidharan, who earlier owned the Tuti Patriots, sold his entire stake to a consortium comprising Selvakumar, Jones and Jay Yes Foundation,” a TNPL official told TOI on Friday. Selvakumar and Jones are prominent players in real estate and construction business, the daily further reports.
“MSG, which was owned by Kothari (Madras) Ltd, will this season have Siechem Industries at the helm of affairs. The change in ownerships of these two teams has been agreed in principle by the TNPL governing council and the necessary paperwork is being put in place,” said the official.
P Damodaran, the managing director of Siechem Wires and Cables, owns the Triplicane Sports Club – which features in the TNCA League. “The franchise will have my daughter Pooja as its CEO, managing the day-to-day affairs and taking all the key decisions,” Damodaran told TOI.
In the two seasons of TNPL played thus far, MSG failed to win a single match in the tournament.
