NEW DELHI: Ajay Singh, principal promoter of SpiceJet and president, Boxing Federation of India, has confirmed to the the Indian Olympic Association that his budget airline would arrange a special flight to Tokyo on 17th July after two airlines cancelled their flights scheduled for 17th & 18th July, in which 81 Indian athletes and officials were booked to fly.
The situation got worsened after the latest conditions imposed by the Tokyo Olympic Games Organising Committee for three days quarantine-like conditions for athletes flying out of India.
Further, the athletes and officials can enter the Games Village only five days prior to their event.
“Under the new prevailing conditions, if we wasted two days due to flight change and three days of quarantine like conditions then Indian athletes would have to go straight for competition without any training and directly from their rooms after three days of quarantine like conditions,” a joint letter of thanks from the IOA to Ajay Singh, signed by IOA president Narinder Batra & IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta, reads.
