BCCI donates Rs100m For Tokyo 2020-bound athletes’ preparations

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Sunday pledged a donation of Rs 100 million for the training and preparations of country’s Olympic-bound athletes. 

In a statement issued after the BCCI’s 8th apex council meeting (emergent meeting) on Sunday, the Indian cricket board declared: “The summer Olympics is scheduled to be held in Tokyo from 23 July to 8th August 2021. 

“The BCCI has decided to support Indian athletes in every form and manner it can. In that spirit, based on the request received from the IOA/MYAS, the Apex Council of BCCI has decided to extend support to the Indian Olympic Association and has pledged a monetary gesture of Rs 10 crores Rs 100 million). The BCCI wishes all the athletes representing India in the Olympics all the very best and hopes that they return with more medals than ever before.”

To put the BCCI’s support in perspective, the Indian Olympic Association’s sponsorship agreement with MPL Sports Foundation, the community initiative of esports platform Mobile Premier League (MPL), as its principal sponsor covering the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, is worth Rs 80 million.
