The management of the Asian Boxing Confederation officially announced that the next edition of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships will be held in the Sri Lanka capital Colombo on May 10-24.
A significant absentee will be India, as the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has aligned itself with the Western powers-backed breakaway World Boxing, while ASBC remains within the fold of the International Boxing Association (IBA).
Sri Lanka has never hosted any of the Asian Boxing Championships therefore the upcoming championships will be not only a historic edition in the South Asian country, but also a new milestone in their boxing life.
Colombo has all of the facilities including the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium and the Galle Face Green which was used for their last National Boxing Championships.
The boxers who were born in 2003, 2004, 2005 and in 2006 will be eligible to participate in the U22 age group in Colombo.
The boxers who are members of the 2007 and 2008 age groups will have the right to compete in the youth part of the busy championships.
The President of the Sri Lankan Boxing, Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara arranged so many competitions in the country in the previous half year and he underlined the importance to host an Asian Championships in Colombo.
The team delegation’s handbook of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships will be issued as soon as possible. The management of the Asian Boxing Confederation is working on its finalization and it will be shared with all of the National Federations.
The last edition of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships was held in Astana, Kazakhstan on April-May 2024 with a great success. Teams from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and India impressed in the competition in the capital city of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
