COLOMBO: Namal Rajapaksa, nephew of newly elected Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and son of his brother and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been appointed as the island nation’s new Minister of Sports.
The former national rugby captain and newly elected ruling party MP becomes Sri Lanka’s youngest Sports Minister.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP took oath as Minister of Sports and Youth affairs before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old is thus the 18th and youngest Sports Minister of Sri Lanka.
