MUMBAI: Telecom major Dialog Axiata PLC has reportedly retained the Sri Lanka national cricket team sponsorship rights for the next three years (2020-2023) at a deep discount.
Dialog, one of Sri Lanka’s largest telecommunications service providers, and the country’s largest mobile network operator, secured the three-year rights for LKR890 million ($4.78 million), Cricket Age reports. Dialog had paid LKR1.2 billion ($6.44 million) to SLC in the previous cycle, which means the rights value has fallen by a hefty 25.8%.
“Two parties showed interest and made bids for the team sponsorship. Dialog is one of them and the other is an Indian (ITW India Pvt Ltd) party,” Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Mohan de Silva had said earlier.
Pertinently, it is worth noting that while Dialog’s price was significantly lower than in the previous cycle, it was still “substantially higher” than the price ITW had put on the table.
