ITTF to issue 2021 commercial rights tender in March

SINGAPORE: The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Tuesday released preliminary information ahead of issuing a significant commercial rights tender this March for the year 2021.

The Sports Business Group at Deloitte will assist the ITTF in select a long-term strategic partner, which will help the governing boy in maximising revenues to nearly double the current value, through a remodelled structure by 2024.

The comprehensive range of commercial rights available include the following areas: Sponsorship, Media (Digital, Social and TV), Gaming and Data, Event Hosting, Licensing, Talent Management, CSR and Future Products.

The strategic partner will have a minority or equity stake in World Table Tennis (WTT), a new and independent entity that the ITTF will launch in 2021 for expanding the game and its commercial viability.

Table Tennis is played by over 300 million people worldwide and has attracted 291 million viewers across 140 different countries as of 2018). The sport already boasts a strong presence in many high-growth Asian countries (forecast annual sports market growth of 8% over the next 5 years) and has considerable untapped potential in several rapidly growing markets including India, Brazil and the USA.

ITTF CEO Steve Dainton stated: “The Commercial Rights Tender will set out the significant flexibility available to prospective partners with regards to the commercial models that will be considered, the properties included and ultimately the way they are sold. Innovative models and proposals will be welcomed.”
