World Archery to meet AAI officials in Delhi from 25-26 Feb

NEW DELHI: World Archery (WA), the global governing body of the sport, will send a delegation led by its secretary general Tom Dielen to India next week to meet the newly-elected officials of the Archery Association of India (AAI), Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Sports Ministry, Press Trust of India reports.

An AAI source said that Dielen has been invited by the AAI president BVP Rao for the visit.

“The World Archery officials will be here on 25 and 26 February. During their visit they hold a host of meetings with different parties and try to sort of problems for the future of Indian archery,” the source told PTI.

AAI’s fresh elections on 22 December last year were not recognized by WA since the federation’s constitution wasn’t ratified by its general assembly. AAI was possibly saved from suspension by Rao’s recent visit to the WA headquarters in Lausanne where he explained the details of the assembly meeting.

However, the WA is requesting for more information in order to take a final call on this regard.

“Further information related to the general assembly has now been requested and, when provided, the complete documentation will undergo assessment before a recommendation is presented to the World Archery executive board,” WA had stated last month.
