ManU sees 120% media engagement rise after Solksjaer appointment

MANCHESTER: Premier League heavyweights Manchester United’s four-match winning streak has reignited fan engagement levels with respect to the club on its global media platforms from the period of 18-31 December 2018, SportsPro Media reports.

Norway’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has previously played for United, was appointed the club’s caretaker manager last month, replacing Jose Mourinho. Solskjaer’s entry has co-incided with United winning their last four Premier League matches in a row, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three.

The United app was downloaded the most number of times besides its launch period and it also recorded its highest weekly reach, visiting frequency and highest average session duration of all time. 26 December, also known as the Boxing Day, recorded the highest number of users for a single day who watched United beat Huddersfield 3-1.

The club’s website viewership grew triple than from any other average week and was more than Real Madrid and Barcelona combined. United received 55.7 million interactions which was the most for any football club in the world and 45% greater than the second best Barcelona.

On YouTube, United created history as the content consumed during the two weeks was the highest of all time, equivalent of the amount consumed in the last 88 years.

The club is all set to face Reading at Old Trafford on Saturday in a FA Cup game and are six points adrift for a place in the top four.

Manchester United’s spokesperson was quoted as saying to SportsPro Media: “Clearly what happens on the pitch comes first at Manchester United and everyone at the club understands that. Ole’s arrival provided a massive surge of interest in the club’s own media channels globally, showing the importance of platforms such as the MU app, the website, and social media in reaching our fans around the world.”
