MUMBAI: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has put further pressure on the Committee of Administrators (CoA) led by Vinod Rai over its decision-making processes.
Ganguly has accused Rai of not getting inputs from or consulting the BCCI’s technical committee of which Ganguly is the president, Hindustan Times reports.
The issue has raised its head after the CoA and BCCI’s GM of cricket operations, Saba Karim declared that the one-year rule of government employees’ wards in a state to be considered a local player on transfer in the middle of the season whether they are working or studying, has been relaxed. This has been the third change of rule since its introduction before the Vijay Hazare Trophy, having earlier met with protests from other teams.
Ganguly’s displeasure was seen in an e-mail he shared with BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, who has also been a vocal critic of CoA’s efficiency in the past, often terming Rai’s leadership as ‘autocratic’.
The e-mail read: ‘Dear Amitabh ji, I am totally agreeable to this and have brought to notice of the concerned people. I am really surprised it goes through without consultation. Even decisions taken at the technical committee meeting has been overlooked and new rules have been followed. It’s complete chaos and against the basic constitution of the BCCI where the respective committees are holding meetings. Hopefully the COA will understand the importance.’
