KOLKATA: The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) is all set to kick off Season 5 on Saturday in the city with the first game between ATK and Kerala Blasters. Besides being the hosts, ATK are 2-time champions of the competition alongside Chennaiyin FC.
With football being inherent in Kolkata and the rest of West Bengal’s DNA traditionally and Sourav Ganguly being a proud co-owner of ATK as well, Star Sports have mixed all these elements in its latest TVC. It has been curated by Star in partnership with Chalk and Cheese Films.
The promo sees Ganguly, also known as the ‘Prince of Calcutta’ and Dada, leading throngs of football fans in a united march to ATK’s home ground, the Salt Lake stadium while magnifying the fact that ‘Football daake aar Bangali ashena? Eta konodin hote pare na!’ In other words, this is a reminder for football fans across India that Kolkata is the birthplace of Indian football which has even seen legends like Pele, Messi and Maradona gracing the land and acknowledging the City of Joy’s unmatched heartbeat for the sport.
“To all, this is the new film of the season, hopefully it will bring us luck and we will have a good season this year. Our record at Hero ISL is phenomenal, yes it wasn’t a great year last year but we will surely turn it around in Season 5”., Ganguly said.
ATK fans can watch all the action in Bengali commentary on Jalsha Movies. The ISL Season 5 will have a six-language feed across 7 channels and see the debut of Star Sports 3, wherein the tournament will be exclusively broadcast in Hindi. Hotstar and Jio TV will be broadcasting all the live action digitally.
