BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government is planning to solve the potential issue of accommodation for fans during the upcoming Hockey World Cup in November by negotiating with hotel chain OYO Rooms to provide 1,000 rooms.
“For accommodating the teams and officials, there is absolutely no issue at all. We are expecting a large number of fans for which hotel availability will be a shortage. We recently had a meeting with OYO for bringing in more hotels under its fold. The discussion we had with OYO was for 1,000 odd hotel rooms”, Business Standard quotes Vishal Dev, secretary of Odisha’s sports and tourism department, as having said at a press conference.
Like in Bhubaneswar, the government is in talks with other hotel chains in the cities of Cuttack and Puri which are likely to be tourist attractions for fans while the tournament is on. Dev opines that anywhere between 10,000 to 15,000 tourists are expected to grace the sporting spectacle.
On its part, the government has prepared special packages for 500 tourists during the competition which will include accommodation, tickets and sightseeing.
