MUMBAI: Indian doubles tennis player, Rohan Bopanna is making a smooth transition to the business world. Months after launching his own artisan coffee brand, he will be the mastermind behind India’s first sports-inspired form called Cardio Tennis (CT) in the city of Bengaluru, Economic Times report.
Cardio Tennis has found many takers in US, UK and Australia but before Bopanna, no one had operated a licensed version of it in India. CT is a fitness gig requiring high levels of energy in which elements of tennis will be used for cardiovascular exercise with music.
Bopanna explained the rationale of choosing Bengaluru over other cities in India to start his business.
“Bengaluru ranks higher than other Indian metros on health-consciousness. It is a mature market that is ready for a new fitness form like Cardio Tennis,” he was quoted as saying to Economic Times.
“With CT, we hope to bring both tennis and fitness to people. It will encourage people to get out and play.”
Harsha Thimmaiah, director of CT (India) reportedly said, “A session of CT runs for about 50 minutes where participants can expect to burn 500-600 calories on an average. One also need not be a tennis player to join this workout.”
Bopanna’s classes have begun at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association in Cubbon Park under the guidance of a US-certified CT trainer with each session costing Rs 400. The tennis player plans to spread this fitness form across Indian metro cities within the next 8 months.
