NEW DELHI: The Union government on Monday tables the National Sports University Bill 2018 in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament).
Once the Bill is passed, it will enable the Sports Ministry to start the first-of-its-kind university in Imphal, Manipur which will focus on education in the areas of sports sciences, sports technology, sports management and sports coaching. The proposed university will provide Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degrees, and Research and Training in various areas related to sports.
It is also confirmed to be the first university in India to run on international standards and will have alliances with the likes of Australia’s University of Canberra and Victoria University, as the government has already signed MoUs with them.
The bill was presented by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, which will replace an ordinance created by the government recently.
The university, which will be spread across 325.90 acres of land as per Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s budget speech in 2014-15, will also be used as an official national training centre for select sports disciplines with state of the art facilities.
