CABI mulls IPL-style T20 league for blind cricketers

MUMBAI: The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) has plans in place to initiate an IPL-style T20 league for blind cricketers, The Indian Express reports. The move comes few months after India winning the Blind Cricket World Cup, establishing themselves as one of the most successful teams of all time in the sport.

Having captured worthy championship wins in the previous years hasn’t resulted in the Indian team getting the recognition they deserve in the nation. CABI’s General Secretary John David revealed that they have contacted Bollywood superstar, Shahrukh Khan who is also the co-owner of IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders and showed interest in purchasing a franchise in this league as well.

“We have had a talk with SRK and he showed his interest in the league,” David said to The Indian Express.
Reportedly, the event is expected to happen between mid-November to mid-December this year featuring 10 teams and the matches will be in the home and away format.

Star India, the broadcasters of the IPL, has been approached for broadcasting this tournament as well. Their
response is awaited.
