NEW DELHI: The Haryana government has promised cash awards for athletes hailing from the state who won medals at the just concluded Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia.
Of the 66 medals that India took home from this edition of the Commonwealth Games, athletes from Haryana won 22, including nine Gold, six Silver and seven Bronze.
State Sports Minister Anil Vij announced on Sunday that Gold medallists would get cash awards of Rs 15 million, Silver winners Rs 7.5 million and those winning Bronze Rs 5 million.
“It is a great achievement, they have made the country and the state proud. Thirty eight players from Haryana represented the country in the Commonwealth Games,” Vij said. “Every Gold medal winner will be entitled for class A, Silver medal winner for class B and Bronze medal winner for class C job in Haryana government,” he added.
Young shooting sensations Anish Bhanwala, aged 15, and 16-year-old Manu Bhaker hail from Haryana.
Vij has talked the talk. That he has walked the talk will be clear when the 22 winning athletes actually have the promised cash and jobs in hand.
