T20 Mumbai League postponed again

MUMBAI: The T20 Mumbai League, announced with much fan fare in early December by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), has been postponed (yet again), with no news on when (and if) it will see the light of day.

The league was supposed to be played from Thursday, January 4 through to January 9. The reasons being given for the no show are delay in filing the paperwork, and also the BCCI’s decision to bring the Zonal T20 League, which commences from January 7, forward, DNA reports.

MCA joint secretary PV Shetty says that the league will definitely take place, without clashing with other tournaments. “We are waiting to find a window to host the league. It will take place in the coming time,” Shetty told the daily.

It is worth noting that when the league’s launch announcement was made last month, the MCA declared it had appointed the consortium of IIFL Investment Managers and its associated companies through a special purpose entity (IIFL Group), the lead member of the consortium, and Wizcraft Group to plan, execute the event in its entirety. The consortium is represented under the name and banner of Probability Sports LLP.

The MCA’s efforts at launching a T20 league has long been in the pipeline, and this latest setback only casts further doubts on it future prospects.
