KOLKATA: Argentine soccer legend Diego Armando Maradona arrived here Sunday to kick off a football conclave.
According to local media reports, the football icon will take part in a charity soccer match against former Indian cricket team captain, Sourav Ganguly.
Maradona, who helped Argentina lift the World Cup in 1968, is on a three-day visit to India and was welcomed with loud chants of “Diego, Diego” at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash International airport. The soccer legend, sporting a navy-blue T-shirt and a military cap, blew kisses at the crowd in reply.
This is Maradona’s second visit to the City of Joy. He visited last in 2008 when thousands of fans gathered to welcome him past midnight at the airport.
