MUMBAI: The Colaba Sports League and the Vile Parle Football League have merged to form the Community Football Club of India, with the stated aim being to play in the Youth I-League in the coming years.
The new club, launched Tuesday, “is an initiative to promote football across the country”, by creating a platform for the budding players across the city, state and nation, it was announced during the launch function held at the Cooperage football stadium.
The club will have the guidance of ‘A’ licensed coaches as technical directors and has the blessing of the local association, MDFA, and the state football body, WIFA.
The club also aims to start academies and form teams to play in the local MDFA league, club officials said.
On the sidelines of the club launch a book, titled ‘Bayern Factor – The Untold Story’, written by Kaushik Malik about his tryst by the famous German club Bayern Munich and its legendary goalie Oliver Kahn, was released in the presence of Mumbai Mayor Vishawanth Mahadeshwar, Germany Consulate General Dr Jurgen Morhard and MDFA President Aditya Thackeray.
