MUMBAI: The BCCI has reportedly set down conditions before the International Cricket Council as the game’s world governing body prepares the calendar for the recently-approved World Test Championship and the ODI League.
The Big Daddy of world cricket has demanded that four months of the international schedule – the October-November and February-March windows – be reserved for India’s home season, Mumbai Mirror reports.
According to the daily, the message was conveyed to ICC general manager (Cricket) Geoff Allardice during a recent meeting in New Delhi on the sidelines of the India-New Zealand Twenty20 International on November 1.
Allardice was further told that the BCCI will schedule full series against Australia, South Africa and England, while for other countries two Tests and three ODIs will be the norm.
No surprises that Pakistan will not be included in the schedule that BCCI will draw up. How that squares with ICC’s approved rules for the Test series, which is to have nine teams play six series over two years – three home and three away – with each having a minimum of two Tests and a maximum of five, is the big question.
As for the ODI league, each side will play four home and four away series each comprising three ODIs, Mirror reports.
The Test championship is set to start in June 2019 while the ODI league kicks off a year later.
The scheduling issue will come up for discussion at a meeting called by the ICC at its Dubai headquarters on December 7, the daily reports.
