MUMBAI: Star India has reportedly tweaked its sales team structure, putting into place a project focused ad revenue team, mandated to bring in close to Rs 15 billion from TV ad sales for the Indian Premier League 2018.
An Economic Times report says the broadcaster aims to mop up Rs 2 -3 billion from advertising on its video on demand service Hotstar. Star, which garnered the global media rights of the league for $ 2.55 billion in September this year, is planning out its strategy for the IPL that will commence in six months’ time.
In the last season, incumbent rights holder Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN), had recovered over Rs 13 billion from ad sales, while Star netted Rs 1.2 billion from Hotstar. Star India had digital rights for the IPL till the last season.
ET quotes industry sources to say that Star India has altered its sales structure and a new team, helmed by two vice presidents — Atul Gandhi and Vaibhav Goyal, heading a team of six to eight managers, will be responsible for the IPL-related ad sales.
