B’luru loses Women’s WC hosting rights to T’puram: Report

THE ICC WOMEN’S CRICKET WORLD CUP 2025 fixtures originally scheduled in Bengaluru are reportedly set to be moved to Trivandrum, following the tragic events of 4 June, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) victory parade turned disastrous.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium had initially been allocated five matches, including the tournament opener featuring India on 30 September. However, the Karnataka State Government has taken a tougher stance on hosting cricket matches in the city.

Although an official announcement is yet to be made, the decision is understood to have been finalised late on Monday night after the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) failed to secure the necessary permissions, despite being granted a two-day extension by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The original deadline was 9 August, but the BCCI reportedly agreed to wait until 11 August.

Sources indicate that both the BCCI and the ICC informed the KSCA that they could not afford further delays, given the fast-approaching tournament deadlines. Multiple calls and messages to KSCA officials went unanswered, but sources within the BCCI confirmed to Cricbuzz that the matches will be relocated.

The Karnataka Government’s uncompromising position on cricket events has also raised concerns over the city’s ability to host future tournaments, including next year’s T20 World Cup and the IPL. Recently, permission for the Maharaja Cup was denied, forcing organisers to move the competition to Mysuru.

The Women’s Cricket World Cup will feature eight teams — Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, hosts India, and Sri Lanka — playing a total of 31 matches, including 28 league games, two semi-finals, and the final.
