If last year’s elections for the Wrestling Federation of India’s executive council was all about proxy candidates whose main claim to fame was absolute loyalty to the WFI’s former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for the Kaiserganj seat in Uttar Pradesh follows an identical template.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is fielding Karan Bhushan Singh, son of the sitting MP Brij Bhushan. It is worth noting that Karan was last year anointed by his father as his replacement for presidentship of the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association.
Be that as it may, this will be the first time since 2009 that Brij Bhushan, the sitting MP, will not be contesting from his pocket borough Kaiserganj. That his son Karan will rule by proxy, as is presently the case with the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association (as too the WFI), is but par for the course.
Polling will be held in Kaiserganj in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
