SPORTS MINISTER Mansukh Mandaviya has confirmed that cricket and hockey will “definitely” be part of the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad, along with two indigenous Indian sports.
The announcement made during an interaction with journalists comes amid ongoing high-level consultations between the Indian government and Commonwealth Sport officials, as the country gears up to host the centenary edition of the Games.
Mandaviya has explicitly stated that both sports are guaranteed inclusion in the 2030 programme. These sports were not included in the scaled-down 2026 Glasgow CWG, making their return in 2030 significant. At least two traditional Indian sports will be added, with kabaddi, kho-kho, mallakhamb, and yoga under consideration. The exact indigenous sports will be finalized later, but Mandaviya has indicated that two will “make the cut.”
The 2030 CWG is expected to feature around 15–17 sports, in line with the Commonwealth Games’ new flexible format.
