FORMER MUMBAI CRICKETER and coach, Kiran Powar, is set to enter the sports infrastructure space with the launch of a multi-sports training facility, marking a significant shift from his on-field and coaching roles to sports development and grassroots ecosystem building.
Kiran Powar is a former domestic cricketer who represented Mumbai and other state teams, and later transitioned into coaching and administration. He has played 39 first-class matches, scoring over 2,500 runs at an average of 42, was the former India U-19 captain (1994–95), and has Has coached at various levels, including Mumbai age-group teams. He recently served as head coach of West Zone in the 2025 Duleep Trophy.
The 55-acre facility is located in Khopoli and aims to nurture young talent while promoting recreational sports and active lifestyles. A badminton complex, Olympic-sized swimming pool and skating rink are already operational, while a cricket ground (July-August) and other facilities such as padel and squash courts, athletics track and open-air gym are in the pipeline.
