THE EUROPEAN T20 PREMIER LEAGUE (ETPL) has officially unveiled Glasgow Mugafians as one of the six franchises set to compete in its inaugural season in 2026. The announcement marks another major step in establishing Europe’s first ICC-sanctioned T20 franchise league, aimed at expanding cricket’s footprint across the continent.
The Glasgow Mugafians will represent Scotland in the ETPL and is owned by Tansha Batra and backed by the Mugafi Group, a media and entertainment platform founded by Vipul Agrawal. The Mugafi Group will handle commercial, content, and digital infrastructure, positioning the team for global reach. West Indies legend Chris Gayle has joined the franchise as a co-owner and global brand ambassador.
The ETPL’s six franchises will be representing Glasgow (Scotland), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Edinburgh (Scotland), Dublin (Ireland), Belfast (Northern Ireland), and Rotterdam (Netherlands). There will be 33 matches in total to be played from August 26 – September 20, 2026. The league is jointly organised by Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, Royal Dutch Cricket Association and commercially backed by Rules Global (Rules X). Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan is a co-founder/ co-owner of the league.
The ETPL has attracted several international cricket stars and investors including:
- Amsterdam franchise: Backed by Steve Waugh & Jamie Dwyer; Mitchell Marsh as captain
- Belfast franchise: Co-owned by Glenn Maxwell
- Edinburgh franchise: Backed by Kyle Mills & Nathan McCullum; Mitchell Santner as captain
