PCB moves to strengthen PSL with independent financial and governance model

THE PAKISTAN CRICKET BOARD (PCB) has approved plans to make the Pakistan Super League (PSL) financially and administratively autonomous, despite not yet releasing audited reports for the last two editions of the tournament.

The decision was taken during the 84th PCB Board of Governors meeting, chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, where members also approved the surplus budget for the 2026–27 financial year and the budget for the PSL’s 12th edition. The PCB did not disclose details of the new budget.

Since its launch in 2016, the PSL has been organised and managed by the PCB from its headquarters. This year, the PCB expanded the league from six to eight teams. However, it has yet to release the audited financial reports for the league’s last two editions.

PCB Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza presented the budget and financial plans for the 2026–27 fiscal year to the Board of Governors. The board approved an increase in the domestic cricket budget from PKR 3 billion to 4 billion. It also cleared the format for the national team’s new central contracts, revised payment mechanisms, and a format-based match fee structure for players. Additionally, PKR 6.70 billion was allocated for infrastructure upgrades, including the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi.
