Newly crowned Hero Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK Mohun Bagan FC will be renamed as Mohun Bagan Super Giants from the 2023-24 season.
Club owner Sanjeev Goenka made the announcement after The Mariners beat Bengaluru FC in a penalty shootout in the final at the Fatorda Stadium on Saturday to clinch their maiden ISL title.
“We were waiting on the cards. We were waiting for the [ISL final] win to announce it,” Goenka announced after the historic win.
The renaming of the team introduces commonality with the Goenka-owned Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants.
