Afghanistan to ‘host’ Ireland in India for upcoming cricket tour

DEHRADUN: The Afghanistan Cricket Board has taken to its official Twitter handle to announce that it will be hosting the Ireland team for a full-fledged cricket tour in India starting Thursday.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the North Indian city will see Afghanistan and Ireland battle it out in three T20Is, five ODIs and a one-off Test match.

The Test match will be of historic significance for Afghanistan, which played their first ever against India in Bengaluru last year. It will be their first ‘home’ game in the longest format of cricket.

On the other hand, Ireland hosted the first Test it was ever involved in, which was against Pakistan in Dublin. It will also be taking on England to kick off the 2019 English summer at Lord’s.

The tour will also be a relief for Discovery’s DSport, which will be broadcasting it in India. The channel recently pulled out of its agreement with the Pakistan Super League, arguably the most lucrative cricket property it has been associated with so far, following the Kashmir terror attacks last week.
