KABUL: BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary announced in a joint press conference with ACB chairman Atif Mashal in the city on Wednesday that Afghanistan will get an opportunity to play in warm-up matches against teams travelling to India in the future.
Amongst other developments, Afghanistan have also officially been granted the newly-built Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Dehradun as their second home venue after Greater Noida.
Chaudhary commented on the relationship between the two cricket boards growing from strength to strength: “It is an honor to be here in Kabul being invited by Mr. President. It is a privilege for us to be playing Afghanistan in their historic first Test match as we did not want to let go of this opportunity. Cricket will further strengthen ties between the two countries and deliver a message of peace. Afghan players are well known and loved in India because of their participation in IPL which will increase in the coming years,” he said.
Mashal in return, thanked the BCCI for their support in developing Afghanistan cricket’s skills and infrastructure and playing the hosts for their first-ever Test match later this month.
“Cricket strengthens ties between nations. Afghanistan seeks to improve cricketing relations with India as well as other cricketing nations. “
“Afghanistan is now a full member of ICC and we also enjoy cordial relations with BCCI which will be further strengthened as we strive to work together to further develop the game in the country.”
