MUMBAI: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) recently passed a resolution to increase the dearness allowance of national players from the current 600 rupees a day to 1000 rupees.
The decision was taken at the executive meeting of the AIFF which was held on October 6. AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das told the Times of India, “Yes, the players did approach me and we discussed that their DA needs to be increased.”
Indian footballers do not have a central contract and are paid their annual salary by their respective clubs. AIFF takes care of them when they are with the national team, which includes stay, travel and three meals a day. The players reportedly asked for a hike in the DA to 1000 rupees, an amount Das refused to acknowledge to TOI.
Following a jump in rankings of the Indian national team to 96 recently, there has also been speculation of a hike in pay for players. The Indian national contingent, led by coach Stephen Constantine is set to head to Goa for a qualification match for the Asian Cup on November 14, a tournament which India have already qualified for.
