MELBOURNE: Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed on Thursday that it will compensate Bangladesh following the cancellation of their 2-Test and 3-ODI series in August this year, IANS reports. Australia are planning to host them for a T20 series in late 2019, so that both teams can be adequatedly prepared for the ICC World T20 to be held in Australia in 2020.
“The window allocated in the ICC FTP for Bangladesh to tour Australia in August this year has been postponed, by mutual agreement by both Cricket Australia and the Bangladesh Cricket Board,” a CA spokesman was quoted saying to IANS in Melbourne. “Both countries agreed to postponing that tour to be better aligned ahead of the ICC World T20 in 2020 in Australia,” he added.
The CA rubbished media speculation that the tour this year was called off due to financial reasons. Reportedly, the Bangladesh Cricket Board was upset with Cricket Australia’s decision as this was the third instance Australia backed out of a Bangladesh tour.
