BCCI asks T20 Women’s WC team members to submit invoices

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly asked all the 15 members of India’s T20 Women’s World Cup team — that finished runner-up in the 2020 edition — to send an invoice to claim their long overdue share of prize money that has been pending since March 2020.

Sportstar reports that each player is likely to receive approximately $26,000.

The BCCI officials had told Indian media that the amount would be disbursed later this week. Earlier, The Telegraph in the UK had reported on the Indian players after they were not paid for more than a year.

It bears noting that while all the other participating teams in 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup had disbursed the prize money as soon as the tournament was over, the world’s richest cricket body had pretty much sat on the matter till The Telegraph “blew the lid off” the story as it were.

And while unnamed BCCI officials have claimed there was a delay in receiving the money from the International Cricket Council, there has been no comment from the ICC on BCCI’s claims.

Meanwhile, the players have also submitted an invoice to claim match fees for the home series against South Africa that ended in March, Sportstar further reports.
