BCCI digital rights higher than TV for first time

MUMBAI: In a first, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set a higher base price for digital rights compared with those for TV.

Moreover, the board has reduced the collective base price (TV+Digital) to ₹45 crore per match for the upcoming media rights cycle. The base price stood at ₹61 crore per match whch was what Disney Star paid in the recent cycle.

The reserve price for digital is at ₹25 crore per match, while it is â‚¹20 crore per match for TV. Till now, the base price for digital rights was never more than TV rights.

Additionally, the BCCI has made a significant policy shift by allowing consortiums to participate in its bilateral media rights auction, Cricbuzz reports. This marks a departure from their previous stance, where consortiums (a collaborative group of multiple businesses or banks working together towards a common objective) were not permitted to engage in media rights bidding, even excluding them from the Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights auction last year.

The Indian cricket board had recently released the e-auction tender to sell media rights for all formats of international cricket India will play at home in the next 5 years.
