BCCI sets guidelines for domestic T20 competitions

MUMBAI: The BCCI on Tuesday created a 10-point advisory for all state associations when it comes to hosting T20 tournaments, making it mandatory for them to follow, Times of India reports.

These guidelines are said to have been discussed and approved by BCCI officials during the Special General Meeting (SGM) on June 22, which was conducted despite the disapproval of the Committee of Administrators (CoA).

They include rules such as the state units having to apply for permission to host a T20 competition, a minimum of 45 days before its commencement through an email and a hard copy sent to the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI.

The state associations are reportedly expected to furnish any information that the BCCI wishes to know such as the profiles of the tournament’s operations managers, the owners, players and the support staff of the franchises.

In order to encourage local talent, the BCCI also mentioned that only players from the state or its territorial jurisdiction will be allowed to participate in the competition and only one such tournament can be held each year.

To ensure that BCCI events such as the Ranji Trophy get their due, state T20 competitions cannot be held from September 15 till the end of February each season.

It also laid down protocols for state associations to follow as per the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Code and the Players and Match Officials Area. The ACU will nominate and appoint a minimum 2 officials for the tournament.

It remains to be seen if the CoA approves these guidelines set by the BCCI.
