MUMBAI: Touting transparency and keeping in mind the massive financial stakes in play, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has reportedly decided to go for an e-auction for awarding the next cycle of media rights for world cricket’s most valuable property – the Indian Premier League.
The IPL media rights e-auction, which will be sold for a 5-year term (2023 to 2027), is expected to be conducted in the second week of February (between 10th and 12th February, according to Times of India).
KPMG is said to have finalised the process of sale of rights.
For the record, while the BCCI had employed e-auction for the sale of India cricket and BCCI’s title sponsorship rights in the last cycle, the IPL rights were sold in 2017 via closed bids. At the time, Star India (now part of Disney) had outbidded all players in the fray to acquire the rights for Rs 16,347 crore.
