Bundesliga ‘Big 4’ make €20m ‘solidarity’ payment

MUNICH: FC Bayern München, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer 04 Leverkusen are contributing a total of ‎€20 million euros as part of a solidarity campaign. The aim is to support Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs in cases of hardship triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.

The four UEFA Champions League participants from this season will initially forego their share of the as-yet undistributed national media revenue of the DFL in the coming season. This amount, which would amount to around ‎€12.5 million using the current distribution matrix, will be increased by the four clubs by around ‎€7.5 million from their own resources.

The DFL Presidium is to decide on the criteria for the distribution of the ‎€20 million.

“This campaign underlines that solidarity in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 is not lip service. The DFL Presidium is very grateful to the four Champions League participants in terms of the community of all clubs,” explained Christian Seifert, spokesman for the DFL Presidium.
