BEIJING: Active monthly users (MAU) in China’s fitness sports industry 1.7% year on year to 64.22 million by the end of May 2019, an industrial report shows.
Driven by the growth momentum of China’s sports industry, sub-sectors including sports equipment manufacturing and fitness activities registered double-digit growth year on year, Xinhua reports, quoting from the report released by big data service provider QuestMobile.
The number of users who utilized mobile apps for sports and fitness activities stood above 60 million since March 2019, while leading apps posted significant user growth, the report said.
As the population engaged in sports activities expands, sports brands and retailers continued to tap into the Chinese market, according to the report.
Sports consumption in China is expected to reach $221 billion (1.5 trillion yuan) by 2020, according to a two-year national plan for boosting sports consumption jointly issued by General Administration of Sport and the National Development and Reform Commission earlier this year.
